About
For the last 25 years, Maryanne has been enjoying her lifelong passion for painting. She retired from her medical practice in 2000, which empowered her to return to school and study art, primarily as a painter.
She then moved to Arrowtown (New Zealand) where she has established her studio.
Her mentor was famous landscape artist Tim Wilson until his untimely death in 2020.
Maryanne began working in realism and still spends some time in this genre. Her “On Offer” series , painted during and just following the Covid era saw her retreat into realism. It gave her some stability in a time far removed from certainty.
However, her preferred genre is abstract expressionism.
She likes to research and cultivate her area of interest in colourful abstract works. Inspiration for which is often drawn from nature at home and on travels around the world.
Maryanne currently works with both oil and acrylic paints. She utilizes many different application processes depending on her intended outcome; currently her favourite tools are silk screen squeegees. She also loves to layer semi-transparent colours to create depth.
